Welcome to The Winchester & District Branch of Cats Protection

"Caring for Cats"

Here at the Winchester branch we do our very best to live up to the Cats Protection motto, homing and helping cats throughout the district.

Our committee members (left to right): David Hodgetts-Smith, Monica Stride, Adrian Good, Jenny Black, Sue Harper, Carol Good

Voluntary and unpaid

In common with most CP branches, all our workers are volunteers. Our only reward is "catisfaction"!

What do we do?

We rescue stray, abandoned and unwanted cats and kittens in the area surrounding Winchester. We cover Winchester, Alresford, Sutton Scotney, the Worthys and all surrounding districts.

Situated in a rural part of Hampshire, we also deal with feral cat communities, where previously domestic cats have been abandoned and are now fending for themselves and breeding undomesticated kittens. Where this occurs in a place of relative safety and with a good food supply, adult cats are captured humanely, neutered and returned. We NEVER destroy a healthy cat.

Our facilities and finances

We do not have a permanent cattery; voluntary fosterers care for all rescued cats. This includes feeding, cleaning litter trays, visits to the vet, and as much TLC as time allows!

There is no Winchester "office" either. All calls, letters, requests etc. are dealt with in our own homes in our own time.

In order to finance our work, we run a busy programme of fundraising events. Fees for rehoming and adopting cats are used to help the next admissions and we also use collection tins in Vets, Pet Shops, etc. We are always looking for help!
